The Danish recycler Smedegaarden has purchased the German multipurpose container vessel Mv S Gabriel, it’s the youngest vessel ever to be recycled at the Danish plant. S. Gabriel was delivered in September 2003 from Wuhan, China. She was sold to Smedegaarden due to an extensive hull damage caused by a serious grounding off the Azores earlier this year. S. Gabriel has been laid up at Bremerhaven and was towed to Esbjerg by Em. Z. Svitzer’s tug Bestla. S. Gabriel has a length of 100 metres and a beam of 16.4 metres and is fitted with a MAN/B&W main engine. Originally, the vessel had two identical deck cranes, but one was taken ashore by the previous owner as spare parts. Smedegaarden has just finished the recycling of the former passenger vessel Wappen von Hamburg, built in 1966.
